Position: Manager SUT
(Sales & Use Tax return)
- Lead role on all aspects of tax engagements, supervise/mentor AM, seniors, and staff, and build/maintain relationship with internal or external clients.
- Providing guidance and support to the team in resolution of bottlenecks and execution of day-to-day work
- Manage multiple sales tax filing deadlines and client expectations.
- Perform compliance services including planning team activities adhering to sales tax compliance schedules, error handling and reconciliation process, advisory services related to sales tax filings, notice resolution, registrations etc. Work closely with compliance team members to address complex tax issues and ensure accurate reporting. Strategy, planning, and Initiatives
- Develop and execute comprehensive sales & use tax strategies aligned with state and local authorities’ regulations.
- Collaborate with leadership to drive tax planning initiatives that optimize compliance and mitigate risks.
- Identify potential projects for compliance clients and proactively plan, discuss, and execute to the team and ensure timely completion.
- Streamline and improve sales & use tax workflows to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Implement best practices and automation tools to enhance overall tax management processes.
- Technology, Innovation & Compliance
- Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements to bring cutting-edge solutions to tax management. (Vertex, Avalara, Shopify, QuickBooks, etc. technology usage at their best).
Training & Development
- Conduct training sessions for internal teams to foster a deep understanding of sales & use tax regulations.
- Provide ongoing mentorship and guidance to team members for professional development.
- Facilitate regular technical training sessions to keep the team abreast of the latest developments in the field.
Technical and Project management skills Development
- Continuously develop technical skills to stay current with changes in tax laws and regulations related to sales & use tax consulting and compliance and integrate the updates in current processes.
- Identify educational opportunities to gain/advance Project management skills and implement in day-to-day work.
Compliance
Manage the end-to-end U.S. sales & use tax compliance process across multiple states and jurisdictions.
Ensure 100% filing accuracy through strong quality assurance and review mechanisms.
Review monthly/quarterly/annual sales and use tax returns.
Ensure timely and accurate filing, payment processing, and documentation retention.
Manage and support tax engine tools (Avalara/Vertex)
Track economic and physical nexus across states using appropriate criteria (Wayfair thresholds, transaction counts, etc.).
Coordinate state tax registrations, amendments, and closures.
Team Management:
Lead, mentor, and manage the SUT compliance team in India.
Conduct regular training sessions on tax rules, process updates, software tools, and best practices.
Build team capability for tax research, nexus evaluation, and audit support. Conduct performance evaluations, skill gap analysis, and coaching plans.
Quality Reviews & Controls
- Establish and enforce quality review frameworks for returns, data validation, and workpapers.
- Implement review checklists, escalation protocols, and error-prevention measures.
- Perform periodic internal audits to ensure compliance with internal SOPs and U.S.
state rules.
- Track accurate metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Manage and oversee the effectiveness of client interactions from India, ensuring timely, professional, and proactive communication.
- Serve as the primary liaison for U.S. client teams, tax managers, and internal business stakeholders.
- Ensure service-level expectations (SLAs) and delivery commitments are met or exceeded.
- Address client escalations, clarify tax requirements, and provide status updates.

- B.Com / M. Com / MBA (Finance)
