Overview

Hospital and ProFee Outpatient  and Inpatient Coder

Responsibilities

 

  • Reviews patient charts, documents for verification and review code assignment in accordance with official coding guidelines.
  • Ensures codes are sequenced according to government and insurance regulations.
  • Abstracts and enters the coded data for hospital statistical and reporting requirements.
  • Researches and analyzes data needs for reimbursement.
  • Researches, analyzes and responds to inquiries regarding compliance, inappropriate coding, denials, and billable services.
  • Maintains 95% coding accuracy rate and maintains site designated productivity standards.
  • Coding for other areas of the team such as inpatient or professional services as needed.

Qualifications

Proven high quality skills in accurately sequencing and assigning:

 

  • Recognized coding credential from AHIMA or AAPC; and RHIA or RHIT may also be considered.
  • Coding Certifications; preferred (CPC and/or CCS).
  • 3-5+ years of work experience as a Medical Coder in both facility and professional coding setting required.
  • Preferred setting experience in coding for Acute Care Hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals, Clinics, Rural Health Clinics, Federally Qualified Healthcare Centres.
  • Excels at organizing and prioritizing workload and deadlines with high quality and accuracy.
  • Proficient computer skills and working with coding software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • ICD-10-CM codes.
  • HCPCS/CPT codes (Level I and II)
  • Correctly and compliantly append modifiers.
  • Experience in coding multiple outpatient services: Emergency Department, Observation Services, Same Day Surgery, Ancillary Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services, PT/OT/SLP, etc.
  • Strong injection and infusion coding skills.
  • Compliant query writing utilizing the AHIMA/ACIDS published 2022 guidelines.
  • Strong awareness of HIPAA compliance
